The Citizen, Dar es Salaam’s English daily, reports that the construction of the new Tanzanite Bridge in Dar es Salaam is complete and that operations will begin on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, and that no toll charges will apply. Built at a cost of Sh. 242 Billion by South Korea’s GS Engineering, the 1.2 km bridge stretches all the way from Coco Beach coastline in the neighbourhood of Oysterbay to the Aga Khan Hospital. The author, having lived in Dar es Salaam, was familiar with the Selander bridge which was constructed in 1929! The Tanzanite is dubbed as the new Selander Bridge. The construction of the new bridge took 3 years. It is expected to ferry 55,000 vehicles per day and will greatly reduce congestion along the Selander Bridge. We are pleased to post the following tweet showing the NEW Tanzanite Bridge glowing at night as our photo of the day, followed by a short video.

We also invite you to view the following video of the new bridge.
